During the winter these large animals migrate to lower elevations where they are forced to negotiate highways and the associated traffic. Public access to the Luckey Pond area in Lander will be restricted this winter. Anglers are advised not to venture onto the ice due to hazardous conditions. Annual walleye netting at Boysen Reservoir this fall show that numbers of walleye and yellow perch are up. Strong recruitment in 2011 for both walleye and yellow perch are boosting numbers of catchable sized fish in the Reservoir, and another strong 2014 year class of walleye should make for catchable sized fish in the next year or two. Juvenile yellow perch are also abundant which should lead to better fishing for yellow perch in the next couple of years as well.

JACKSON— The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is holding a public meeting to discuss a proposal to change an existing public access easement along the Salt River, and the nearby tributary Christensen Creek, two miles northwest of Grover, WY. More specifically, the easement property being discussed is one mile north, or downstream, of the popular A/G Lane public access area and boat ramp that is two miles west of Grover.

GREEN RIVER—Thanks to another cooperative wildlife project, pronghorn antelope can now navigate fencing along their migration route in antelope hunt area 93 northwest of Green River. The previous fence has been a major road block to pronghorn for many years and the new fence is a much-needed fix to an ongoing problem.

Whirling disease is a malady of trout and salmon caused by a microscopic parasite that produces a spore. The water-borne parasite (Myxobolus cerebralis) may not directly kill trout, but fish heavily infested can become deformed or exhibit the erratic tail-chasing behavior from which the disease gets its name. GREEN RIVER— Kokanee angling on Flaming Gorge Reservoir has been really good over the past several weeks, with large numbers of two-year old kokanee being reeled in by anglers. Many anglers are releasing these younger, smaller fish in hopes of catching a larger kokanee. Unfortunately, a noticeably high mortality of released kokanee is being observed, prompting the Wyoming Game and Fish Department to recommend anglers catch their limit, but limit their catch.
