Public Invited to Comment on Fishing Regulation Adjustments Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is seeking comment on proposed adjustments to the fishing regulations for 2017.
Review the proposals and comment online now through Sept. 12, 2016.
The proposals would mean relatively minor changes in most places and are largely aimed at clarifications that make the regulations easier to understand and a few harvest adjustments.
FWP completes a comprehensive review of fishing regulations and submits recommendations for more substantial changes every four years. The next major review cycle will be completed in 2019, to be included in the 2020 fishing regulations.
Joel Tohtz, FWP's Fisheries Bureau Chief, says that the most significant changes in this off-cycle review year are proposals that would place seasonal (Dec through mid-May) fishing closures on several Hebgen Lake tributaries to offer spawning protection to Rainbow Trout.
These proposed changes, along with others, are available for review and comment on the FWP website at fwp.mt.gov through Sept. 12 at 5pm, and the Fish & Wildlife Commission will make final decisions on the regulations at their Oct. 13 meeting in Helena.
Comments may also be mailed to FWP Fisheries Division—Attn: Joel Tohtz, P.O. Box 200701 Helena, MT 59601 or email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
