Originally known as Shoshone Dam, Buffalo Bill Dam was completed in 1910 on the Shoshone River. At the time it was the tallest dam in the world. Built primarily for irrigation, the reservoir opened up nearly 90,000 acres of northwestern Wyoming to irrigated farming.
