Pathfinder dam was constructed between 1905 and 1909 in a very steep canyon. The dam stands 214 feet high, 97 feet thick at its base but only 11 feet wide at its top. Pathfinder's crest stretches 432 feet from rim to rim, its face laid in large rectangular granite blocks. Getting there:
Located on the North Platte River 47 miles southwest of Casper, in Carbon and Natrona counties. From the town of Alcova, travel west for 6 miles on U.S. 220 then turn left (south) and travel 7 miles to the reservoir via county roads 407, 408 or 410.
