Winter Giveaway Chatfield Trip Details

Guest Blog by: David Harrison , Colorado 4/25/2015

One of my favorite parts of the year is taking out the winners of the Winter giveaway.  I am on the Clam Pro Staff to promote Clam products and what better way to do this than give away some time sitting in a fancy FishTrap with a warm heater and a hole near a dropoff at chatfield?

Well, the warm February nixed that idea so we traded the ice fishing trip to a night on the boat.  The winner, his 75-year old family friend, and two teenage sons boarded my boat yesterday evening for a night of trolling at Chatfield.  The first line in the water netted a smallmouth and the catch was on after that.  We caught fish in the middle of the lake, near the spillway structure, and at the north end of the pits.  I showed the group how to get a bunch of lines out and manage them for minimal issues.  We started with Berkley Flicker Shads early then switched to Rapala Husky Jerks later. A total of 15 fish isn't a record-breaking evening (two were 19" walleyes) but the weather was great and I didn't need to don my Ice Armor Parka until he headed back to the dock.

The best part of these trips is meeting the faces behind the writing.  In the end, Fishexplorer is really one big family and is smaller than you might think.  The major posters and bloggers show up at predictable locations throughout the year (ISE, Bud at Gander Mountain, and various seminar days) but meeting the people that fill in the rest of the forums is a great part of how Fishexplorer works.  If you can so one of the events on the website you won't be disappointed and you will soon learn that the Colorado fishing community is a great bunch of people who share the awesome resources of our multi-species reservoirs and rivers.

Thanks for the trip David it was awsome. The boys are still bragging about it. It is a bummer the ice trip didn't work out but gives me something to shoot for next year. Sorry for being so quite was a long day awake for 24 hrs. We learned a ton and was thinking you where joking around when you said we where going to get ten poles out to troll with. That was crazy. Looking forward to the next trip and hopefully getting some time this summer to try out what we learned.

Oh yeah frank is a old family friend. Old old family friend. Try to get him out as much as possible before he starts to fill his age.
