Texas boaters have the most significant role to play in preventing the spread of zebra mussels across Texas waters. Watch a video about what boaters can do and what the state is doing to stop the spread of this invasive and destructive species.
It is a Class C misdemeanor (for a 1st offense) to transport zebra mussels between water bodies. In addition, all boats operating on public freshwater anywhere in Texas must be drained before leaving or approaching a lake or river to help combat the further spread of zebra mussels and other invasive species. This includes livewells, bilges, motors, and any other receptacles or water-intake systems coming into contact with public waters. Remember to always "Clean, Drain and Dry" your boat.
