The foundation is the conservation arm of the American Sportfishing Association (ASA), the recreational fishing industry’s trade association.

"The FishAmerica Foundation is honored to receive our first donation through the 1% for the Planet program from Surfer’s Journal," said ASA Vice President Gordon Robertson. "These funds will be used to support grant programs for fish habitat restoration. Last year, we received more than $2.8 million in grant requests for $800,000 available funds. This demonstrates the critical need for increased funding for conservation projects. We thank the Surfer’s Journal for valuing and supporting our work."

Since 2002, 1% for the Planet has inspired members of the business community to contribute one percent of their sales to conservation groups around the world. More than 1,000 businesses in 37 countries are members of 1% for the Planet. Annually, more than $12 million is donated to 1,000 conservation groups worldwide.

Over the last 30 years, the FishAmerica Foundation has invested more than $13 million in grassroots freshwater and saltwater fisheries restoration projects throughout the United States. These investments have helped local communities accomplish 1,230 projects to help keep our fish and waters healthy. By working with natural resources agencies, conservation groups, sportfishing clubs and others, the foundation raises funds to help ensuring a positive future for our nation’s fisheries and their habitats.
