BoatUS press release
San Antonio, Texas (May 1, 2012) - Registration for the 2012 BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship has closed with record registration numbers, including nearly 500 students from 248 teams registering for the 200 available slots in this year's event. When the final field is released later this week, 400 students, representing 106 collegiate fishing programs, will be confirmed to compete in the nation's largest and most prestigious collegiate fishing event. Additional students on the waiting list will be learning more this week as participants are contacted for field finalization.
Championship activities kick off Tuesday, May 22, with Yamaha Angler Appreciation Night at McFarland Park, where students will be treated to dinner with Yamaha pros, demo rides, and service support courtesy of Yamaha and Ranger. Official onsite registration, starting at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, May 23, includes a sponsor reception featuring over twenty corporate partners, a banquet dinner, and keynote speakers prior to the pre-tournament meeting. Competition takes place Thursday and Friday with collegiate anglers launching daily at McFarland Park with weigh-ins to start at 2:30 pm. The collegiate team with the heaviest weight over the course of two competition days will be crowned National Champions at an awards ceremony immediately following the weigh-in on Friday.
"It's overwhelming to see the continued growth of this event each year. Topping 100 colleges and 200 teams, along with the size of the waiting list, shows just how the collegiate anglers feel about our Championship and how big collegiate bass fishing has become since we started this event seven years ago. We are very excited to take this event to Pickwick and Florence. Registration numbers confirm that we've made a good move and can expect a great event later this month," said Wade Middleton, Tournament Director.
In addition to prizes, students are also competing for points in the coveted ACA School of the Year race, which is the first college rankings program to recognize the top collegiate fishing teams in the country, taking into account their participation across all leagues.
