American Bass Anglers press release
ATHENS, AL …….. According to FIELD & STREAM Magazine, he walks with the outdoor gods: Individuals like Teddy Roosevelt, Rachel Carson and Aldo Leopold. He is among the “Twenty Who Have Made A Difference” in the American outdoors over the past century. He is Ray Scott, otherwise known as the “Bass Boss”, and he will be the featured guest at the Military Team Bass Championship on Friday, May 4th at Smith Lake Dam Launch Area for the final weigh-in day. The public is invited to come out and meet this legend.

Following in the footsteps of such American legends, Ray W. Scott, Jr. has achieved his own legacy as the “Bass Boss,” the founder of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (B.A.S.S.), the Whitetail Institute of North America, and as publisher framed the foundation for successful outdoor publications, including BASSMASTER Magazine, Southern Outdoors, Fishing Tackle Retailer, and the award-winning national television series “The BASSMASTERS”.

Rarely has one man had such an impact on an industry. Over three decades, Ray Scott, a native of Montgomery, Alabama, transformed bass fishing from a sleepy weekend pursuit to an exciting sport that is enjoyed by millions – whether on a strictly personal level or as a participant or spectator in highly competitive pro tournaments.

Scott will be present at the 22nd annual Military Team Bass Tournament at Smith Lake on Friday, May 4th from 2:00pm-6:00pm at Smith Lake Dam Launch Area, to meet bass fishing fans and to share with them his book, titled, Bass Boss for a book signing. This entertaining and inspirational story is an insider’s look at the personalities, the pro fisherman, the technology, and the events that shaped the multi-billion dollar bass fishing industry.

“The military men and women are very dear to my heart”, stated Scott, “we owe them our gratitude for their service to our country. I look forward to spending time with them at Smith Lake and having the opportunity to share with them my love of bass fishing”, concluded Scott.

And, this year’s top team will win a 3 night / 4 day fishing package to Ray Scott’s Trophy Bass Retreat, compliments of Early Times Kentucky Whisky, one of the major sponsors of the Military Team Bass Tournament. The winning duo will have the opportunity to fish all 3 of his legendary lakes including the President’s Lake. Guests at Ray Scott Trophy Bass Retreat will fish in the wake of presidents, first ladies and fishing superstars like Kevin Van Dam, Rick Clunn, Roland Martin and Bill Dance – all amidst 200 acres of live oaks, Spanish moss and whitetail deer. For this year’s winning team, the Ray Scott Trophy Bass Retreat will be the bass fishing experience of a lifetime!
