When I was growing up as a kid, all I wanted to do was Fish! I grew up out in the sticks and there wasn't much to do for fun. I remember getting home from school in the afternoon and grabbing my Zebco 33 and my tackle box and heading out across the pasture. After several bobbed wire fences and a tear in my jeans, I made it to my famous fishing hole. I would fish right up till dark every day, and find myself walking back home in the dark. It was some of the best days of my life as a kid. There was no trouble to get into back then, I mean I did live in the sticks. Fishing was a get away from school, siblings, and grouchy parents that had to work all day for minimum wage. On the weekends, my whole family would go fishing. Fun times for sure, and great memories.
Today, I still love to fish, and make memories. I owe all the credit to my step father. He took the time to teach me how to fish, as well as how to clean them. I didn't care to much for eating them, and still dont. My step father made an impact on my life several years ago, and he can see it today with how eat up I am with fishing. I was blessed to say the least. I see so many young children today that dont have that father, big brother type of person in their life to teach them the joy of fishing. Instead, kids today are playing video games and watching junk on TV. Those kids are missing out on great times and memories. So, Take a kid fishing and make some memories. Memories last a life time! Video games come and go. Get kids on the water, and off the streets!

Great idea! We need to get our kids involved in fishing as much as possible, the more they enjoy it, the more they will want to spend time with you on the water. I recently wrote a blog post with tips on fishing with kids:

What a great Blog it was nice way for all of us to take a trip down memory lane on how it was when we were kids. I believe that is one of the most rewarding part of guiding is when you have a chance to ignite the passion of a young angler.
Thanks guy's, ain't nothing like memory lane!
my zebco 33 used to get all tangled inside, and that's where i started using open face reels. dad showed me how to fish, the wrong way , but it got me out there and i met up with old guys who did know how to do it. they were very open with the knowledge and i did a lot of imitating.
if you're ever out there and you see some kid struggling, take some time to help out, it might mean a lot more than you know.
