What's the Point?
by: Lloyd Tackitt 5/31/2018
What's the point? We go out in all kinds of weather, year round, catch fish only to put them back. I can see the point in catching for the table, but just to put them back?
And yet that is what I do 99.999% of the time. I put them back. What the heck is that about?
Okay, I've got my reasons, such as they are. It's going to be in the 104 range this weekend, and guess what I'm going to be doing. That's not exactly the sanest thing in the world.
But what I'm really interested in is what your reasons are. Why do you do it? What is it that keeps you going back?

It's difficult to know or explain with precision, but it's something I enjoy doing more than just about anything else. At 67 I'm as excited about fishing tomorrow as I was today and yesterday as far back as I can remember. I think the reasons are many, but at the top of the list are I'm always learning, there are always new places to fish, and new species to catch.

For me it is getting outdoors and enjoying nature, the feel of a big fish trying to tear my rod from my hands, the fight of a small fish as it does everything it can for leverage, being alone, being with loved ones, being with friends, watching the fish swim away and knowing I might catch it again, or one of its offspring.
