Fall and Winter Catfishing
This is a time of year that many anglers begin to put their gear away and stop fishing, turning their attention to football, hunting and a variety of other activities but they are missing out.
Fall and Winter are two of the best times of the year for fishing for channel catfish and blue catfish is absolutely amazing during the cooler months of the year. Both species of catfish can not only be caught in excellent numbers during this time but this is one of the best times of the year to catch trophy class blue catfish consistently in good numbers during the colder months. This isn't specific to Texas. If you live in an area that does not ice out chances are you have good catfishing opportunities available during this time of year.
Channel catfish can be caught in good to excellent numbers fishing a variety of
catfish baits but i prefer to use punch baits like Sudden Impact Fiber Bait from Team Catfish. Blue Catfish are best caught with fresh
threadfin shad or
gizzard shad . The biggest challenge of catching blue catfish in the cooler months is catching fresh bait but with a good cast net, a sonar fish finder to locate the shad and a little persistence you shouldn't have any issues at all catching bait.
If you are a "fair weather angler" that puts his gear away during the cooler months take a chance and give catfishing a try during these months, you might be glad you you did.
