Get Well Dave

Blog by: Matt Snider , CO 9/22/2015 (Return to blogs)
When Dave texted me Saturday that he was heading into the hospital I thought initially he was overreacting to writing cramps.  Seems nothing keeps Dave Coulson down for long, and he's not much for complaining about pain (having dealt with a few of his self-imposed hook implants myself), so naturally the news was a bit worrisome.  Later I discovered he had to go into surgery for some abdominal issues.  Scary stuff.

When I visited him yesterday, his daughter, grand-daughters and laptop by his side, he was in good spirits and woozy from the pain killers.  I got the complete story at this point, plus a few fish stories to go with it.  That's how I know he's heading in the right direction, and I wanted to let you all know so you can keep in your thoughts as he recovers this week.  If all things keep heading in the right direction, the docs say he should be fishing in a week and a half. And if Dave has his way, I wouldn't be completely 100 percent surprised if I see a blog pop up while he's still in the hospital bed.

Good luck Dave, listen to your docs, rest up, and let your body heal. Until then, the fish will be on a feeding frenzy knowing you're laid up.

We won't keep any fish until you are back on the water--that way they will be waiting for you. Get well soon!

Get well Dave, but do it smart and like the docs tell you...those fish may be biting like crazy while you're away, but they'll shut down as soon as you get back no matter when that is :-)

Just visited Dave again and he's looking much better, feeling much better, and has cut down on the pain meds so was just brighter in general. I asked if they found any bit-off flies/hooks in there, which I thought could've been the problem. He said no.

Get well soon Dave - and stay away from the hospital pond, yes, I know it probably has a few goldfish in there, but... it's clearly marked, "NO FISHING" ! Tight-lines, John

Thank you for all your kind comments and well wishes. The last few days have been a bit trying. I've made solid progress and if all goes well I'll get to check out of the hospital tomorrow. While that's a good I also realize that this operation has taken some of the starch out of me and it's going to be days, if not a few weeks before I'm back to full stream.
