Fishing in the Jacksonville area

Post By: RockyFish      Posted: 6/23/2012 12:28:29 AM     Points: 418
Hi all,
Rockyfish from CO here visiting. I'll be staying in Jacksonville, pretty close the the St Johns river. Any tips to pass on? I'll fish for anything, but I'd like to take a crack at some ocean fishing. I brought some spinning gear with me for bass, so I'd like to fish for anything that would be appropriate for that kind of tackle. Thanks !!

Do you have access to a boat? I have never fished the area but you can go to [log in for link] and go to the northeast region for the latest reports. They give some hints on fishing for trout and reds, I just checked out the report for June 18 and there was some good information given. I'll see what else I can find out for you.

Thanks for the reply. With the weather as it was, I only got out once. Did some surf fishing at Vilano beach with a bottom rig and shrimp. Caught a variety, including, which looks like a sheepshead, but I'm not sure, Anyone care to chime in ?

It looks like a small Black Drum. If you go to [log in for link] you can look up both fresh and saltwater species and the only thing that matched the fish you are holding was the drum. Later and hope you get more fishing time in the future.
