The Best Fishing Partner Ever

by: Lloyd Tackitt , Texas 5/28/2018
I have fished with a lot of people over the years, a lot of people.  But there is one that stands out as my all time, no holds barred, no close second place - fishing partner.  The best fishing partner ever.

Yesterday about 7am my wife turns to me and says... "I have errands to run in town but when I get back let's go fishing."

I fall in love with that woman over and over again.  I did it again yesterday morning.

When she came back home she brought two boxes of fishing worms. Twice in one morning I fell in love with her.

We waded down river to the Guinea Hole.  I carried a folding camp chair for her to have a place to sit.  We baited up and cast out and the fish, well they were a biting.

We stayed three hours.  She caught two large channel cats and three nice freshwater drum.  She is still getting the hang of setting the hook and missed a lot of hits.  The big grin on her face when she reeled in those fish was worth more to me than riches and fame could ever bring.

It was a hot and still day, the sun beating down hard.  But you know, that doesn't mean a thing to me while the fish are biting.  Not a thing.  But it does to a fair skinned red head.

I caught three big channel cats and seven drum.  The channel cats we caught averaged about six pounds, they put up one hell of a fight.  I fished with a nine foot, five weight fly rod, and on that rod they really put up a great fight.  My wife used an open face spinning rig with a medium action seven foot rod.  They gave her quite a tussle too.

The drum averaged about four pounds, but I did land one about eight pounds.  Drum are also super hard fighting fish.  I'll catch them all day long and enjoy every one of them.

I have caught some large bass out of that hole, but not yesterday.  I caught one small bass and one small bluegill.  It was the cats and the drum that were in action mode.

It was a great day.  We came home after we ran out of bait.  My wife is fair skinned so being out in that beating sun sitting in a chair (the chair was out in the river, not on the bank) getting that sun reflecting back up at her was not something she needs a lot of, but she never complained - and she is red today.  I'm fortunate to be dark complected and can take a lot of sun.  But she can't, not even when she is wearing sunscreen - and yet she would have stayed longer and she did not complain one little bit.

I love that woman.  A real life fantasy starts with these words whispered in my ear by a drop dead gorgeous red head... "Let's go fishing!"

Sounds like you guys had a great time. After 19 years my wife is finally taking an interest in going with me. Still not very into the fishing but she is awesome company AND way better to look at than the other fishing partners I have.
