I Have the Power….Do you?
Guest Blog by: Danny Barker 11/21/2014
“Cast to Catch” seems to be the buzz right now but it’s like a shot in the dark ! When filming with your GoPro or other HD movie makers due to their short battery life getting the money shot is near impossible. It always seems to go dead at the wrong time due to the Big Fish bite window being so small or at times nonexistent. Now you have to change batteries or recharge the one you’re using.
Into the picture comes GoPuck and Wild Rivers CLC’s portable and wearable charging device that gives you 5X the battery life of your device whether it be a GoPro, Iphone, Ipad or any electronic device that uses this kind of power. Here’s a few ideas when looking for a suitable source of portable power….1) Portability….it needs to be light-weight and that could fit in your pocket or attached to something small. 2) Capacity…be able to store enough energy to charge your mobile devices several times a day. 3) Speed…. Fast charging about twice as fast as your wall outlet. 4) Wearability and mountable holders that keep your power packs near by or on your body. 5)Versatility… you probably own more than just a phone when it comes to gadgets. You probably have a GoPro, tablet, Ipod, and other USB – Powered electronics. Having reviewed both units and coming up with some of my own ideas on wearing and mounting them I can say they preformed great. The other slick product from Wild River was the Solar Panel charging system for the power pack when they start to run down…………so now you’ll have all the power needed to get that perfect video, stay connected with these small power packs…….Check them out ! GoPuck and Wild River CLC.
Stay on em,
Hi my name is Danny Barker I'm a NorCal tranplant living in North Central FL Ocala to be exact. I cut my teeth fishing the Cailf Delta, Clear Lake and Folsom Lake for 40 years, some of the best bass fishing waters in the country. My personal best 14.63 lb LM was caught and released on Folsom Lake which ranks in the top 5 fish ever caught on the lake. I've been in FL for 5 years now and love it here, the bass fishing here is outstanding as well. My main focus will be targeting big fish with an emphasis on catch and release and resource management. I want to help all the guys and gals out there looking to catch their personal best bass. This area is loaded with huge fish and I'm looking forward to helping each of us in our pursuit of big bass.

Very cool info Danny! Now does this work as an alternate power source for the GoPro, or is it just for quick charging?

How did it compare to the goal zero systems in your research? I've been looking at those, but haven't delved into the research yet.

Oh ok, well very neat gadget man. I think I will talk the old lady into gettin' me one. And like Pike stated, nice ride! I dig the scale on the stand up bar, I am sure that makes for a quicker safer release.

Pretty much go fishing to go fishing...and therefore spend most of my time and energy on fishing rather than capturing the event for social media. That said, I know I'm probably pissing into the wind relative to the "notice me please" culture these days as, frankly, I'm lucky to get the occasional still of the fish I catch... manly because I'm fishing and not worrying about production values. I know, I know...fishing for fishings sake is sooooo 90s...

Esox... Saying that something is "so 90's" is sooo 2002... Haha
I agree with you, fishing is more about fish, friends, and beer to me. But I think to the guys like farging' it's a way to combine two hobies and be a fisher-photog.

Ha, ha...yea a little sarcastic jab at the techie oriented world we have made for ourselves. I lament that for an increasing number of folks a day of fishing comprised of focusing on fishing, listening to the outdoors, watching wildlife, and contemplating your own thoughts has now morphed into the need to be "connected" 24/7, while keying on capturing the whole event to show to others (and perhaps auditioning for that all-elusive fishing show spot). Endorsements, tournaments, websites, promos of all types are just more examples of the "Madison Avenue-ization" of the sport...and thats too bad.
Plus... this post struck me as sounding like a big advertisement.
