As previously
mentioned I am not much of an experimenter when it comes to switching fly patterns and lures. I was hooked on Clousers when I first met one, and rarely stray far from the pattern. What do big fish eat? Other fish. What does a Clouser pattern imitate? Those fish.
I don't have a whole lot of time anymore to tie flies, but this is the one I do make time for. I usually don't buy them from shops - I prefer to add my own secret touches to the pattern. And like
Dave expresses in his article, "Clouser Minnow", there's more than meets the eye when you look at this fairly simple lead-eye and wing fly.
With slight modifications you can alter the fly's sink rate, its length, its profile, and obviously its color. It is a multi-use tool that can reach many different depths and produce many different presentations.
Dave's article covers the variations in detail.
Enjoy!
