The Gunnison is unusual as rivers go, as there is no Gunnison headwater, rather the Gunnison River begins at the junction of the Slate and East Rivers in Almont. The majority of the river from Almont until it becomes Blue Mesa flows through private lands and is accessible strictly by floating. Six miles of this 18 mile section of the Gunnison ...

Getting There:

Blue Mesa inlet 5 miles west of Gunnison on Hwy 50 to Almont, 9 miles north of Gunnison on Hwy 135.
