Yampa River State Park will be hosting a program for all ages to educate the public on “outdoor ethics.” The program is called “Leave No Trace” and will be presented by the Colorado Tour Team, which advocates preservation and protection of our outdoor recreational areas. Colorado Parks and Wildlife biologists recently confirmed the presence of two invasive species, New Zealand mud snails (NZMS) and a plant called Eurasian water milfoil (EWM) in Eleven Mile Reservoir. NZMS primarily feed on algae and aquatic plants, and can crowd out other desired fish and invertebrate species. EWM is an aggressive aquatic plant that out competes native plants and can form large strands on the surface of the water, which can entangle motors and degrade the quality of recreation

The hours for boat inspections at Jackson Lake State Park will change on Monday Aug. 29. The new hours will be Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the inspection hours will be 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 5, the inspection station will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day through Oct. 31.

Wildlife monitoring crews have recently confirmed that two invasive species - New Zealand mudsnails and an aquatic invasive weed, Eurasian watermilfoil - have been found at Eleven Mile Reservoir, according to an Aug. 12 press release from Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

Wildlife officers are warning campers on Glade Park in western Colorado about increasing bear activity. Because of that activity and a recommendation from Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the Bureau of Land Management has closed the popular Mud Springs campground until Friday, Sept. 2. The closure comes after several campers reported seeing bears that showed little fear of people. Those bears were reportedly entering campsites, raiding trash and coolers, and frightening some campers.

The Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA) Thursday implemented the fire ban restrictions imposed by Fremont and Chaffee Counties, and the Bureau of Land Management.
