DOW Press Release 06/17/11
Sanchez Reservoir boat ramp closed

SAN LUIS, Colo. - To ensure public safety and to protect watercraft, the boat ramp at Sanchez Reservoir has been closed because of low water levels. The Colorado Division of Wildlife took the action because the water level is now below the boat ramp and using it is unsafe.

The reservoir will not fill completely this year because of low snowpack. Sanchez Reservoir is located in south central Colorado in Costilla County.

The Division is working on a plan to extend the boat ramp. Construction will occur this fall, said Rick Basagoitia, area wildlife manager in the San Luis Valley.

Boats can be launched from the shoreline, but caution is advised.

Mandatory boat inspection for aquatic nuisance species continues to be in effect through October.
