5th Annual Grand Lake Catch & Release Ice Fishing Contest
Grand Lake's Catch & Release Ice Fishing Contest has brought a whole new group of fisherman to our little mountain Town. The first weekend in March is now filled with the sounds of ice augers and snowmobiles and has become the perfect fishing event for the entire family!
The festivities kick off Friday night at Pancho & Lefty's with the Welcome Party. Here contestants can register, receive their signal flags and stay for some amazing prize giveaways. This starts at 5:30 pm and goes until 9:30 pm. If contestants can not make it up that night registration moves to Rocky Mountain Outfitters starting at 5:30 am Saturday morning. The entry fee is $40 and kids under 14 are free to enter.
Fishing offically begins Saturday March 5th at 7:00 am and the 'Lil Fisherman's Snow Sculpture Contest is a fun activity for the kids on the ice and will be judged at 3:00 pm. Saturday night The Sagebrush BBQ and Grill hosts The Fisherman's Feast, a must for all contestants. Door prizes will also be given away in between the days fishing stories and great food.
Fishing starts again Sunday at 7:00 am and ends at 12:00 pm with the Awards Ceremony at 1:00 pm back at Pancho & Lefty's. Cash winners must be present to win.
Five years ago some people told us a catch and release contest on Grand Lake was impossible to have. Well this is our 5th Annual Grand Lake Catch & Release Ice Fishing Contest and it just keeps growing and getting better each year. The Grand Lake Fishing Committee is proud of the fact that this contest also helps in keeping track of the lakes Mackinaw (Lake Trout) populations. All data collected is shared with our local fish bioligist.
