Larimer County Contributes Funds to ANS Program to Keep Boat Ramps Open until Dec. 13

The North Ramp at Carter Lake and boat ramps at South Bay at Horsetooth Reservoir will stay open, weather and water levels permitting, until Sunday, Dec. 13.
Concerns about funding to support ANS inspections had forced officials with Larimer County Department of Natural Resources to consider closing the boat ramps in mid-November. Boats cannot be launched on these reservoirs unless they are first inspected for ANS.
The ANS program at Carter Lake and Horsetooth Reservoir is funded and regulated by Colorado Parks and Wildlife. A dramatic increase in boat decontaminations this year has depleted funds provided by CPW for ANS inspections, so Larimer County has contributed money from its own coffers to ensure boats can undergo ANS inspections and be launched at these popular reservoir parks during the fall season.
"It's all about providing good customer service," said Gary Buffington, director of Larimer County Department of Natural Resources. "We are extending the boating season utilizing Larimer County funds so our boaters can enjoy one of the best times of year to be on the water. Fall is also one of the best seasons for fishing at Carter Lake and Horsetooth Reservoir, and we want to make sure our fishermen can access these waters."
