Ice Fishing and Conditions Report for Lake John and Delaney Butte Lakes 12/7/14

A quick weekend update: I didn't hear of anyone getting wet here on Lake John, or even getting a soaker for that matter, so I guess everyone used good sense. The weather was warm and there are still several areas of open water. In fact, my records show only 5 of the last 12 nights have been below the freezing point, but the ice is trying to hold its own, despite. Rocky areas, points and shorelines demand the greatest attention, but general caution is needed on a constant basis. Angling-wise, everyone I talked to that fished Lake John did very well. I didn't see any huge fish, but numbers were excellent. The bite lasted all day, however trout seemed more aggressive in the a.m.
I haven't been over to the Delaneys since Thursday, but reports say open water areas are growing slightly, and ice is getting gradually unstable in places.
Our local weather forecast for this coming week predicts mostly sunshine with daytime temperatures around 40 degrees, but nights should be somewhat colder with lows near 20. Stay tuned.
