Ice Fishing and Conditions Report
Lake John, Cowdrey Lake and the Delaney Buttes
November 30, 2014
We havenít had a freezing temperature since last Tuesday night, the wind has averaged about 20 mph and even hit 50 mph several times in that same period. Iím surprised the ice has held on this well, though itís not without some damage. A large hole has opened up in the center of South Delaney, however fishermen have found sustaining ice around the lakes perimeter, and so far North and East Delaney are holding their own. Lake John has several areas of open water, the largest directly off of the north point. Two others are between the north point and the spillway, and yet another small section directly off the west point. The last one that I know about is in the south end, straight out from the boat ramp. Fishermen are still finding plenty of reliable ice to fish on, however safety and common sense need to be enforced on all the lakes. My latest report is that Cowdrey has decent ice with no open water as of yesterday. Colder weather is expected this week.
The catching on John has been great, with easy limits coming out for pretty much everyone. Elsewhere the bite has been decent, just slightly more sporadic. A regular to Lake John, Jared Sego, stopped by yesterday to show me his limit of fish, which included this 23 inch, 5 lb.-4 oz. Rainbow ó proof that Lake John is doing very well.
