Hazard Tree Removal Project Completed Along Long Draw Road
United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service
The hazard trees have been cut and hauled from the area.

“I appreciate the public’s patience as work has taken place in the Long Draw area over the past three years,” Canyon Lakes District Ranger Kevin Atchley said. “It was an important project for the long-term safety of our visitors and employees.”

With the completion of the project, the road is fully open with no delays. The road had opened August 22 to the public this year, but with delays due to the work taking place.

Camping in the area remains limited due to the impact the project had on the designated dispersed sites. Dispersed camping is very limited be sure to obey all posted signs. Camping is also available at the Long Draw and Grandview campgrounds.

Long Draw Road will remain open until snow closes it for the season. Information on the status of roads is available on the Canyon Lakes Roads Status website at

It is also important for folks to make safety your top priority when heading into the forest. Remember your safety is your responsibility. Live and dead trees can fall without warning, especially with the abundance of saturated soil throughout the forest. Be sure to know weather conditions before heading out.
