In partnership with Outdoor Heritage Day (Colorado Parks and Wildlife) and the Colorado Mule Deer Foundation, the Forest Service annually offers a chance for families to experience the outdoors and have their children write about their experience and submit their entry for the drawing.
This year’s winner is Silas Baxter of Grand Junction. Silas and his family hiked and picnicked on a trail near the Grand Mesa Visitor Center and camped in the Spruce Grove Campground as their activities. Tyler wrote of his hike, “I can’t say it was the most fun thing I’ve ever done, but it was not the worst either. It was a great learning experience…” More information on Silas’ submittal and the Cabin Contest can be found on the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests’ website: www.fs.usda.gov/gmug
