Yampa River voted best for fishing

There are several options for casting a line in Northwest Colorado.

For the best, Craig Daily Press readers have picked the Yampa River in the 2010 Best of Moffat County contest.

The Yampa River stretches across Moffat County, and the reason it’s No. 1 is behind two reasons, said Ron Dellacroce, park manager for Yampa River State Park.

“The first reason it’s the best is diversity,” he said. “The second is access.”

The Yampa River contains brown trout, rainbow trout, channel catfish and northern pike all close to town.

Fishing near Craig or around Dinosaur is completely different, Dellacroce said.

“It’s a little different everywhere you go,” he said. “It’s full of really good places to fish.”
