Ed Kehoe, Gunnison Gorge Anglers Newsletter
The Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife did two fish rescues on the South Canal just East of Montrose in November this year. The Division needed some help and gave GGA a call and we had a total of 11 volunteers come out to help. On this day we saved 136 Browns and Rainbows just in the morning. After lunch another section of the canal was shocked and several more were saved.

Eric Garduno of the CDPW was leading the rescue. I talked with him and asked why they were doing this rescue. He told me it was to get a fish count in the canal to see how well the electric gate at the East Portal was working. The Division will be talking with the company that put in the gate and see if more electric current needs to go into the gate to cut down the number of fish getting past the gate. This will be checked again next year to see if all the fixes work.

I want to thank the volunteers that came out to help with this very important project.

From GGA: Kevin Humphreys, Ed Kehoe, Gabe Magtutu, Greg Ray, John Straw, Paula Straw, Ken VanSkiver.

Others: Javiek Lujan, Jake McKittrick - CTU, Zachary Mills, Blair Truman-RIGS.

Thanks to the Division who had, Eric Garduno (BOSS). Justin Borcherding, Chip Lamar, Dan Cammack. These fine gentlemen guided us in doing such a great job of saving the fish.
