USFS press release
BOULDER, Colo.– As of today, Sept. 30, 2013 Brainard Lake Recreation Area (BLRA) is closed to vehicle traffic west of the main access gate near the fee station due to recent snow, high winds, and icy road conditions.
The area remains open to pedestrian access, and no fee is required. Parking is available at the Brainard Gateway Trailhead parking lot east of the gate and fee station.
Caution is advised for pedestrian visitors as high winds and recently saturated soils increases the risk for dangerous blow-down and hazard trees falling.
Visitors on foot may see concessionaires on site, finalizing seasonal operations and winterizing the facilities.
Forest officials remind visitors to be mindful of area closures and check with Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and the U.S. Forest Service before heading out to the woods. For flood information as it relates to National Forest System lands and links to a variety of related resources visit: http://www.fs.usda.gov/goto/arp/flood2013
It is always a good precaution to call associated agencies to verify posted web information as some websites take longer to update than others. For questions regarding NFS lands within Boulder Ranger District boundaries call 303-542-2500.
