Longmont flood may force fishing day to move from Izaak Walton

LONGMONT -- After 10 years of fishing in any weather, the Chick Clark Kids' Fishing Program likely will leave Izaak Walton Park due to the St. Vrain flood.
The flood washed away a berm that shielded Izaak Walton's pond, removing the barrier as far east as Boston Avenue. With the 15.7-acre pond wide open to the river, the city has no way to contain the fish it stocks in the pond every spring, just before the annual March event.
Dan Wolford, the city's open space manager, said Thursday that organizers will consider other locations in town, such as the pond at the Boulder County Fairgrounds, but that the city is still at least a month or two away from knowing the conditions of all its fisheries.
