DENVER - Colorado State Parks is hosting many unique programs and activities throughout 2009 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the state parks system, including a new passport program that allows visitors to log their trips to each of the 42 state parks.
Travelers can pick up the Passport to Parks at any state park or state park office. Or you can download your Passport to Parks online at www.parks.state.co.us/parks+passport. On each trip to a Colorado state park, each passport will be validated with a specialized stamp designed for that park. Visitors who obtain a stamp from all 42 state parks can submit their passport by email or fax, using a copy of the pages with the validation stamps. The email address is firstname.lastname@example.org and the fax number is (303) 866-3206.
The first 200 complete submissions will receive a complimentary 50th Anniversary Colorado State Parks sling pack. Seasoned park travelers with fully validated passports also will be entered to win a gift certificate as a prize for their travels.
Passport to Parks serves as a fun, interactive way for people to spend quality time with their friends and families while participating in inexpensive, yet entertaining outdoor activities. In addition, the passport program offers a special opportunity to visit communities across the state and experience different environmental, cultural and historical influences that shaped the state of Colorado.
Since 1959, Colorado State Parks has been a leader in providing opportunities for high quality outdoor recreation, protecting the state’s favorite landscapes, educating visitors about nature and partnering with communities.
In addition to the passport program, Colorado State Parks is hosting a number of celebrations throughout 2009 to commemorate the 50th anniversary. On June 17, there will be an anniversary celebration at Cherry Creek State Park to honor the past 50 years and inaugurate the next 50 years of outstanding outdoor recreation. The celebration will include lighting birthday candles to rededicate Colorado State Parks and Natural Areas. Bring your whole family and join us as we celebrate our past and look forward to the future!
