I just came back from checking ice conditions on Lake John and the Delaneys. I stabbed holes at all the boat ramps with an ice spud, 5 in all. A hole at both ramps on John, then 1 apiece at the D's. All approx. 3 inches - give or take a half inch. Ice came on Sunday morning, that means about an inch a day (or night) thus far. Should be here to stay this time. There was already a portable hut out on John. Time to be super careful. Fish with a buddy, but don't stand together. Have a safety rope handy along with ice spikes. A hand auger or spud is good enough, no need to lug out the heavy power. Wear creepers, not much snow at present. Roads all good.
