Ridgway State Park Closes Swim Beach, Remains Open for Boating and Other Activities

RIDGWAY, Colo. - Due to low water levels, Ridgway State Park will close the swim beach on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012. Park Manager Kirstin Copeland swimming isn’t safe at the beach due to low water levels that have exposed dangerous rip rap and other hazards that are normally below the surface. With the closure of the swim beach to swimming, there is no place to swim from shore at the park. However, the park remains open to fishing, boating and other water recreation.

Copeland said that despite the low water levels, there are still great activities at Ridgway State Park. Nestled at the base of the spectacular San Juan Mountains in southwestern Colorado, Ridgway has popular campgrounds, a beautiful reservoir for boating fishing, picnic and playground areas, and diverse wildlife. The park offers family-friendly activities for all types of outdoor enthusiasts, including interpretive programs. Natural surface trails pass through the piñon/juniper forests and onto mesas offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountain peaks.
