Boat Ramp Closures

Grand County, Colorado
Both the boat ramps at Williams Fork and Wolford Mountain reservoirs in Grand County have closed for the season, officials said.
Williams Fork, three miles south of Parshall, closed Oct. 31, said Denver Water Recreation Manager Neil Sperandeo.
It was opened year-round before other lakes in the area were infected with exotic mussels. While neither reservoir has zebra or quagga mussels, they both took precautions to make sure boats did not transfer them from nearby lakes.
“They’re bad for the water system, boat, and certainly for the ecosystems and fishery,” Sperandeo said. “We’re trying do to the best we can to make sure they don’t get in Williams Fork.”
Certified inspectors from the Colorado Division of Wildlife check boats for mussels before they are allowed on the water. The reservoir was closed shortly while the system was set up this year, and then it reopened.
“It was closed until we could get boat inspectors,” Sperandeo added.
The DOW inspectors were needed for the hunting season.
“They have more important things that they have to do right now,” he said, adding that the fishery has slowed down for the season.
Once the reservoir freezes over, it will be available for ice fishing.
Wolford Mountain Reservoir
Wolford Mountain Reservoir, six miles north of Kremmling, closed at 7 p.m. Nov. 2., according to Jeff Miller, Wolford Recreation Facility Concessionaire.
“Normally it’s open until the lake freezes over,” he said.
The reservoir pays certified inspectors to check boats for mussels before they are allowed on the water, and will close because of slack demand.
“Today a guy is being paid to sit for two boats,” Miller said on Oct. 31. “The amount of use right now is pretty slow.”
The gates will open for ice fisherman to drive onto the reservoir once it’s safe. And the lake will open again around May 1, weather permitting, Miller added.
