Per a report by Lake County Sheriffs Office, at approximately 1:35pm Lake County Dispatch received reports of a potential fire at the Interlaken Historic District near Twin Lakes Colorado. Leadville Lake County Fire Rescue (LLCFR), Lake County Sheriff's Office (LCSO), and St. Vincent Health Ambulance Service responded at approximately 1:40pm.
At this point, the fire is on U.S. Forest Service land, fire suppression responsibility has been turned over to the U.S. Forest Service.
Resources from Lake County Search & Rescue (SAR), Vail Fire & Emergency Services, Chaffee County Fire Protection District, Red White & Blue Fire, Summit Fire & EMS and U.S. Forest Service responded.
At approximately 5:00pm the fire was estimated to be approximately 164 acres as reported by the Multi Mission Aircraft, a resource provided by the State of Colorado.
The Interlaken Historic District buildings are not threatened at this time, due to fire staff on site who have provided structure protection efforts. Fire resources will remain at this site throughout the night.
Pre-evacuation notices have been given to residences in Lost Canyon Road (County Road 30), Balltown (Near the intersection of State Highway 82 & US Highway 24), and those recreating in the area. Those recreating in the area were evacuated by the Lake County Sheriff's Office and SAR staff. There were hikers at Interlaken that were transported in the SAR boat to safety.
