Wildlife Window: Fish hatcheries helped spawn state parks

Many things coalesced to create the fishing culture that came to prominence in the 1900s, and that fishing culture figured mightily in what would become state parks in Colorado.

Wilson Sisty had nothing to do with state parks, yet he set the course.

For eight tedious years, Sisty worked to organize and grow fish culture across the state. Trout provided table fare in a time before agriculture caught up with the state’s population. Facilities in California and New England showed how to raise trout in hatcheries then disperse them into wild waters.
