Car crash survivor finds recovery through fly fishing

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT News)-- Back in 2012, Ellie Phipps was hit by a drunk driver. We featured her story on our station at the time.
“I had five herniated disks in the thoracic region of my spine, three were actually touching my spinal cord,” says Phipps.
Since then she’s fought for stricter DUI laws, even getting legislation passed that would make a fourth DUI a felony. She was devastated that she would never be able to climb the mountains that she had climbed for so many years. That’s when Ellie decided to take up fly fishing. She would spend the next year and half learning on her own.
