State conservation bill clears House panel

A measure protecting some 400,000 acres of public land in Colorado, including the Thompson Divide area southwest of Glenwood Springs, passed a House committee Wednesday, the first major Colorado public lands legislation to pass a committee in Congress in more than a decade, its House sponsor says.

The Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy (CORE) Act passed the House Natural Resources Committee in a 23-15 vote.

The measure is sponsored by U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse, D-Lafayette, and U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo.
