Colorado Parks and Wildlife is updating the management plan for State Forest State Park, and the public is invited to share their input on the draft plan. CPW will be offering a public comment period on the State Forest State Park Draft Management Plan from May 28 - June 15.
State Forest State Park is the largest park in Colorado’s State Park system and the only park with alpine habitat. With over 71,000 acres, the park's wilderness consists of rugged and remote landscapes with elevation ranging from 8,200 - 12,952 feet. The park’s forest, jagged peaks, cold weather sand dunes, alpine lakes and streams are home to a variety of wildlife. SFSP stretches along the west side of the Medicine Bow Mountains and into the north end of the Never Summer Range.
“State Forest State Park is one of the most beautiful parks in Colorado, and it is important that we continue managing the park in a manner the public understands and supports into the future," said Joe Brand, park manager at State Forest State Park. "Participating in the comment period is a great opportunity to play a role in shaping the direction of this park, and we value all of the feedback that we receive.”
The draft management plan is a 10-year plan that sets goals for the park and provides direction on resource protection, visitor use and future management activities. The plan can be found on the State Forest State Park homepage. Those interested in providing input can access the public comment form online through Saturday, June 15.
CPW spent the last year working with the public and partners to prepare this draft plan. In the fall of 2018, the agency encouraged the public to provide input during the initial planning process for the draft plan. The management plan will serve as guidance to protect the natural and cultural resources and continue to offer exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities at State Forest State Park.
CPW is excited to share this draft management plan for the park. Your input will help shape the future of State Forest State Park. To learn more about the State Forest today, please visit https://cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/StateForest
