Boulder County ice fishermen say solitude, family tradition keep them hooked

While some people spend their winters enduring bumper-to-bumper ski traffic, or sinking icepicks into a sheer frozen mountain while climbing, ice fishermen choose to brave precarious ice on frozen lakes in search of a great catch.
Whether temperatures are comfortable or well below freezing, ice fishermen make their way up to Gross Reservoir every winter. Colorado has no shortage of winter sports, although it takes a special kind of person to go ice fishing. Excruciatingly cold weather conditions can take a toll on any stationary fisherman, while even warm comfortable days pose risks for a potential ice break-through.
