Because they are resistant to deadly whirling disease, Gunnison River rainbow trout are being spawned so that strain of rainbows can be stocked in rivers across the state.
The only trout native to Colorado is the cutthroat, named for the red slash of color under their gills. Although this trout is not from Woods Lake, similar cutthroat have been restored to Woods Lake.
