Arkansas Headwaters hosts free ‘wingding’ holiday open house with activities, raffle
SALIDA, Colo. – The holidays are a great time to get together with friends and that’s why Arkansas Headwater Recreation Area (AHRA) is hosting its own “Wingding” Holiday Open House.
The staff at the park wants all its friends in the community to stop by its open house, scheduled 1-4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, at the AHRA Visitor Center, 307 W. Sackett Ave., in downtown Salida.
The event is free and attendees will enjoy wildlife-themed activities and holiday refreshments.
Of course, park staff wouldn’t miss the chance to offer activities and a learning experience. Children are invited to solve a "whodunnit" mystery. They can investigate tracks, hair and skulls. Or they can build a birdhouse, peek at owl pellets or listen to a story or two in the reading corner.
Adults and children can enjoy a special presentation by amateur geologist Bob Hickey, AHRA's favorite hike leader. District Wildlife Officer Kim Woodruff will lead a fishing lure and spoon-making activity.
And be sure to sign up for the free raffle drawing for your chance at a basket of goodies.
This event is sponsored jointly by Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Greater Arkansas River Nature Association (GARNA),
The open house also is a great time to shop the AHRA Gift Shop. Looking for the perfect gift for the outdoor enthusiast in your life? Our gift shop also is full of clothing, books and other unique gift items that will be on sale at a 10 percent discount on GARNA merchandise. Gift certificates also will be available.
