Going native: Stalk the cutthroat, not the rainbow

The trout were eager and cooperative that day many years ago.
As I was just learning to fly fish, I needed all the help I could get. To be honest, it was the fish that taught me, really. Each one bore the familiar pink stripe down its side that I knew to be a rainbow trout. I thought nothing of what was natural and what was not. They were just supposed to be there as far as I was concerned.
Then something different happened. This next fish took the Rio Grande King off the top just the same as the others, but as I drew the small fish near me, it looked different.
