Midway to our rendezvous in Wyoming's Northgate Canyon section of the North Platte River, JR Reese asked the driver to slow down.
"I want to look at the river as we cross this bridge," he said, as the truck slowed to a crawl along Colorado Highway 126 just north of Walden. "I'm curious about the flow."
It was a reasonable request. Even though it was late May, the spring runoff had peaked or was close to peaking on several Colorado rivers and we knew a quick look would tell us if the North Platte was running ahead of schedule.
