Chimney Hollow Reservoir receives final approval The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently signed a final Record of Decision and approved a 404 Clean Water Act Permit for the Windy Gap Firming Project. This decision paves the way forward to construct Chimney Hollow Reservoir following a 14-year federal permitting process that began in 2003. Chimney Hollow Reservoir will be located in the foothills immediately west of Carter Lake in southern Larimer County. It will store up to 90,000 acre-feet of water behind a 350 ft. tall dam, which will be one of the first constructed in the United States with an asphalt core. Governor signs CWCB Construction Fund Projects bill Governor Hickenlooper recently signed the Colorado Water Conservation Board's Construction Fund Projects bill following its passage during the 2017 Colorado legislative session. The bill includes $90 million in low interest financing for Windy Gap Firming Project participants. The photo below shows Gov. Hickenlooper signing the bill, with Greeley Rep. NISP Open House - Tuesday, June 27 Northern Water will hold a public open house on the Northern Integrated Supply Project Fish and Wildlife Mitigation and Enhancement Plan. The plan was recently presented to the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission, which has approval authority.The open house will be held Tuesday, June 27, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at The Ranch First National Bank Building, located at 5280 Arena Circle in Loveland. The proposed NISP Fish and Wildlife Mitigation and Enhancement Plan is available at www.gladereservoir.org.
Water Literate Leaders of Northern Colorado The Colorado Water Institute, in cooperation with the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado, is launching the Water Literate Leaders of Northern Colorado program. This program is for those who hold or aspire to political office, or other roles, involving boards and commissions, which can impact regional water policy. Applications are due August 1 and participants will be chosen August 15, with a maximum of 20 participants selected.
