Conditions Report Lake John 1/16/17
Lake John Resort
Roads were closed most of last week due to weather in which snow totals by some accounts were more than 4 feet. Winds and white-out conditions paralyzed the county and caused the cancellation of the Lake John/Cowdrey Lake ice fishing contest that was scheduled for January 14 and 15. The main access road coming into Lake John is currently in good shape, leading to a parking area just past the north boat ramp in front of the picnic areas. There is presently no truck access to the surface of the ice due to deep snow. The best mode of transportation around the lake would be by snowmobile if desired fishing location is farther than your walking capability. With the amount of surface snow, expect an insulation effect causing slushy conditions for the first several inches atop the ice. Ice is plenty good at about 18, although the overlay is difficult to navigate. The fishermen that I have seen and talked to since the storm have been doing quite well, and I will be giving it a go myself tomorrow.
Stay tuned,
