North Park waters have a thin ice cap

Bill Willcox Lake John Resort email
I went around John and the Delaneys this morning, poking some holes with my spud, just to check ice conditions and thickness. Because the ice on N.P. lakes has formed and been blown off a couple times already this year, consistency and hardness vary. Thickness ran from 1 and a half to 2 and a half inches, but not all ice was clear and hard. In fact, very little was. All 4 lakes had at least a bit of open water yet, but that should be gone soon if the wind doesn't get too crazy again. The last few nights have only been down to the mid 20's and today was 45, but it is supposed to get colder on Friday.

I'm not going to tell anyone the ice is even close to safe, but I'm sure there will be some hard water walkers testing their mettle at some point this weekend. Hell, it might even be me. Remember, there is no need to lug out the extra weight of a power auger, the heel of your boot will probably do!?!?

The west side of East Delaney had 6 inches of ice on 11/27. North and South looked thin still.
