The 3 rd Annual - America Cup International Fly Fishing Tournament was held in Vail area 15 - 18 Sept. The America cup is the premier fly fishing tournament in the US.
Fourteen teams from Europe, Canada, Asia and the US including two world individual champions,members of the USA Fly Fishing Team and the 2011 World Champion USA Youth Fly Fishing Team and the Canadian Youth Fly Fishing Team competed on private areas of the Colorado and Blue rivers and Nottingham Lake and Sulvan Lake.
There were 14 teams and 70 competitors in the tournament.
Team Emerger, a composite team from Europe including two World champions took the top honors.
Total number of fish caught was 2,189 with the biggest fish measuring 57 cm.
Two competitors from Fort Collins did very well aginst this international field.
Devin Olsen (Fishery Biology graduate student at CSU and the current 2010-2011 Point leader in tournament fly fishing in the US and Canada) placed 7 th overall and and team placing of fourth as a member of Team USA.
Conner Murphy (age 17 and student at Fossil Ridge High School) placed 24 th overall out of 70 competitors and his team - Colorado Youth Fly Fishing Team placed 10th overall.
The Tournament is schedule to be held in the Vail area in 2012.
