General Details:

Located in the White River National Forest at 13,434 feet above sea level at the base of Pacific Peak. It lies 1300 feet above Mohawk Lake. It appears the general route to this extremely high lake is via the McCullough Gulch Trail, a very difficult hike. It is apparently the highest named lake in the United States. Getting there:

Directions to the Quandary Trailhead Lot (from USFS) From I-70 take Exit 203, Frisco/Breckenridge, and travel south on Hwy 9 approximately 10 miles to the town of Breckenridge. Continue through Breckenridge on Hwy 9 (Main Street). You will pass the town of Blue River, travel 4 miles and then turn right onto Blue Lakes Road (FDR 850). The parking lot will be on your right. This parking lot is available without a reservation during winter operating months. Parking on McCollough Gulch or Blue Lakes Road is no longer allowed and will be enforced by Summit County - you will need to hike up McCollough Gulch Road to access the McCollough Gulch Trailhead
