Getting there:
US-34 to W Portal Rd to Tonahutu/North Inlet Trailheads. North Inlet trail for almost seven miles to Lake Nanita Trail. From North Inlet Trail, Lake Nanita Trail is noticeably steeper. Several switchbacks wind in and out of wonderful views of the valley where North Inlet Creek originates. The trail gains 1,700 feet of elevation over 2.7 miles. You'll pass Lake Nokoni, which by all accounts should have fish, but doesn't. From Lake Nokoni to Lake Nanita, the trail again gets steeper warranting a few rest stops you're almost there. The saving grace of this healthy hike is that the last third of a mile is downhill to the lake.
